A New Name

2024-01-27

In the Bible, people received new names when significant changes occurred in the their lives.

But why would a website need a new name?

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. - Matthew 10:34

The old name for this website, Christian Liberty Institute, was chosen quickly. I wanted to get a website started to see what I could do with web technologies that I had never used before. It described the purpose of the website, but as time went on I realized that it wasn't a good name and that it was too long. Account handles on other websites would create issues, since it was longer than fifteen characters. Some references to Christian Liberty Institute may linger for a while (for example, with our Courses), but these will eventually be updated.

The New Name

Akai Tsurugi in Japanese calligraphy

Akai Tsurugi is the transliteration (Latin characters used to represent another language) of the Japanese words 赤い (akai, red) and 剣 (tsurugi, sword).

Why Japanese?

Although this website is only available in English now, Japanese will be the first non-English language we will support with Japanese resources in the future.

Why a sword?

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. - Hebrews 4:12

The Bible is referred to as a sword in Scripture. The focus of this website is to provide resources to aid in the study of the Bible. And swords are cool. When a new logo is made for the website, it will feature a sword.

Why a red sword?

As I learned from the crayon box song: red is for the color of the blood that He shed.

Ultimately, the Bible is about the blood of Christ. Don't let those liberals fool you. The doctrine of the blood atonement has been assaulted by people who claim to be Christians saying that the atonement has nothing to do with the blood or that the blood is just a "symbol." What Christ and His blood accomplished in His death, burial, and resurrection (also referred to as the work of Christ) is the core of the Bible and the foundation of salvation. No wonder it is under attack by Satan and his devils.
